Project Overview
The Stage 1 Wallarah Deconstruction works involved the controlled removal of redundant coal handling infrastructure at Port Waratah Coal Services, Kooragang Coal Terminal.
The project included the deconstruction of gantries, trestles, transfer tower elements, hopper components and associated structural steelwork. Works were completed using detailed lift planning, staged removal sequencing, hot works, working at heights controls and crane-supported dismantling methods within a live industrial environment.

Removal Methodology
Site establishment and permits
Site access, inductions, SWMS and JHA reviews, toolbox meetings and required PWCS work permits were completed prior to works commencing.
Structural preparation and strengthening
Visual inspections, temporary strengthening, bracing and lift point checks were completed before structural sections were released.
Controlled crane removal
Gantries, trestles, transfer tower components and hopper sections were removed using planned crane lifts, engineered lift studies, barricaded exclusion zones and controlled rigging methods.
Processing, loading and demobilisation
Removed steelwork and materials were lowered, processed, loaded out and transported from site in accordance with PWCS requirements.
