Project Overview

The ROM and Truck Load-Out works formed part of the removal of redundant coal handling infrastructure at Whitehaven Coal’s Werris Creek Mine. The scope included the dismantling of ROM crushing systems, conveyor structures, gantries, trestles, mechanical components and the truck load-out bin.

Works were completed using a controlled deconstruction sequence involving isolation, hot works, mechanical separation, crane-assisted lifts and progressive dismantling from the ROM feed and crushing area through to the truck load-out silo.

Key Features

  • ROM feed and crushing area removal
  • Feeder breaker and connected equipment removal
  • Conveyor gantry and trestle deconstruction
  • Truck load-out bin roof and platform removal
  • Dual crane lifting operations
  • Hot works and mechanical separation
  • Lift studies, SWMS and demolition planning
  • Active mine site coordination

Removal Methodology

1

ROM feed and crushing area

Demolition commenced at the ROM feed and crushing region, including removal of the feed hopper, feeder breaker and connected equipment after separation from the conveyor system.

2

Conveyor and gantry removal

Conveyor structures were removed progressively from left to right, with Gantry 1 removed first before the remaining gantries and trestles were dismantled sequentially toward the load-out silo.

3

Dual crane lifting

Dual crane lifts were used where required to maintain structural control, reduce torsional movement and safely lower large sections into designated laydown areas.

4

Truck load-out bin demolition

The truck load-out bin removal commenced with the upper roof and platform structure, using controlled hot works, mechanical separation and rigging installation prior to lifting.
